Tefl Techniques - The Van Game

TEFL Techniques – The Van Game The very best way of teaching English (or any other language!) is to get the student wanting to learn – hungry for new ways to express themselves in your language. To this end, teach into the passions of the student, be it Classical Piano, Horror Movies, Cars and Planes, Football or the music of Marc Anthony (I’ve had students teaching me on all these subjects, and more!). You get the picture? If a student wants to talk about something, they’re more likely to be searching for words and phrases than if they are talking about something that doesn’t really interest or engage them.

Narada And The Illusion Of Maya

Sage Narada was a Maharishi, a renowned teacher, inspirer of poets, counselor of kings, a divine messenger, and also a notorious ‘mischief-maker’. The word ‘Nara’ means knowledge useful to mankind and ‘Da’ means ‘a giver’. So ‘Narada’ means the one who gives knowledge to mankind and imparts right guidance.

Narada with a knotted tuft of hair in the center of an otherwise clean-shaven scalp, usually makes his characteristic entry with a Veena (a stringed musical instrument) in his hand and the name of Lord Narayana on his lips: “Narayana, Narayana”!

Taking Refuge In The Tao - Another Look At Drinking Wine

Even for those who may understand the depths of ancient Chinese thought, the term “Tao” can be a mystifying word.

Basketball Moms May Throw The Next Election

Soccer moms may have lost the political clout they would need to overthrow the next election. Dads are diluting their numbers. Moms are not the only ones on the sidelines at their kid’s soccer games anymore. Dads are finally taking a masculine stand and appeasing their wives wishes.

Dads may be throwing the national electoral out-of-whack because in their manly assertiveness they are actually attending their kids soccer games! Sure, moms still rule the bandage aisle, the school bake sales, and even the world of baby birthing, but not the soccer games.

Beyond The Rhythms Of The Mind To Being…

The Hindus have conceived of four states of the mind: Awake; Dream; Deep sleep; and Turiya. Mind functions through very subtle electric waves. The mechanism has to be understood. Now researchers say that mind functions in four states. The ordinary awake mind functions at 18 to 30 cycles per second – this is the ‘beta’ state of mind.

Deeper than that is the ‘alpha’ rhythm – when you are not active but passive – relaxing, listening to music, or in prayer or meditation. The activity of the mind is lowered to 14 to 18 cycles/sec. (awake but not very alert /awake but passive).
