Goals, Dreams And Hopes - Where Do You Begin? Start Writing

What kinds of articles do you appreciate reading and what moves you the most when it comes to inspiration and knowledge? We are all different in this world. There are no two individuals completely alike. And that is proven by so many scientists who have tested and re-tested twins. Yes even twins are not alike in every single way. So, that is why your writing is unique. You have a unique brain, therefore your writing is unique also. What a wonderful world we live in to have so many wonderful people, all with different brains and different experiences who are able to access this website and to make their opinions known to all of us.

Literary Agency Research Secrets To Help You Get In Print

What I really dislike about looking for a literary agent is the uncertainty. You never know what the agent is really going to be like until you start to work together. You can talk on the phone, read up on the agent, and google the agent, but there’s nothing like working together for a few years to tell you what someone is really like.

So how can you evaluate a literary agent thoroughly beforehand? Is it even possible?

Creative Outlining - Not An Oxymoron

The first time I was asked to write an outline, I balked. Stifle my creativity with Roman numerals and chapter titles? The process was like pulling my fingernails out. Not only had I never tried to summarize the scenes in my half finished book, but deciphering what should be detailed and what could be omitted was almost as difficult as creating the dreaded synopsis.

Although the assignment was a monumental struggle, it taught me a valuable lesson. With direction, with the upcoming events in my novel detailed, I felt motivated to write the last scenes that had previously eluded me. This worked wonders for a novel that was nearly completed.

Testing The Writing Waters With Contests

I have lost count of the number of rejection form letters I’ve received that stated, “This doesn’t meet our needs.” I didn’t know if the need not met included the whole story being poorly written, or maybe the subject matter wouldn’t work. Nothing in that form letter let me know. This type of rejection happens to author after author, leaving us all wondering what we should or need to do.

I now know that one way to test stories before submitting them to publications is to enter contests. Some contest judges will even send a short evaluation of the entries. I enter contests connected with writing conferences and some supported by or listed in writing magazines.

Trademark: Do I Need One For My Business Name And Logo?

Wondering if a trademark is important to you as a business owner? Let’s start with the basics. A trademark is a word, phrase, symbol, or logo that distinguishes and identifies the source of goods of one company or person from another. For example, the name Kraft is trademarked, as is Nike’s “swoosh” logo.

The list of what constitutes a trademark is long. A trademark can also be granted to unique packaging such as the shape of Coca-cola’s bottle, building designs, color, sound, and even fragrance. Service marks receive the same legal protection, but are used to distinguish services instead of products.

Book Proposals - My Top 10 Secrets

Joel writes books about baseball. He’s a good writer, and his angle is the psychology of sports. The only problem is that Joel is such a fanatic about getting all the science right that he seldom stops to think about the way to sell his work.

When I coached Joel, I told him my first secret: Be commercial. This doesn’t mean you need to forget the science or be crass. But it does mean you need to look at the marketplace.

Literary Agent Fun Facts To Help You Get Published

Working on a book proposal can sometimes be an exhilarating process, and sometimes it’s just a bore. The reason it’s exhilarating is because you’re imagining the success you could have with the book. The reason it can be a bore is because the book proposal isn’t the book itself, it’s the marketing tool for the book. As a marketing tool it has a decidedly business plan feel to it, and business things can often bore a creative writer. Nevertheless, there are ways to make the process more enjoyable, and one of the best ways to do this is to find some fun facts out about the various literary agents you’re planning to contact.
